A legendary life

Emily Dickinson

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson

December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886

American lyric poet whose compressed, unconventional verse profoundly influenced modern poetry.

Her story

A life that changed history

Emily Dickinson wrote nearly 1,800 poems, most of which remained unpublished during her lifetime. Her concise poems explored mortality, faith, nature, love, and consciousness through slant rhyme, unusual syntax, and distinctive punctuation. Posthumous publication established her as one of the most important poets in American literature.

““Hope” is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul –”
